Air Montenegro Demonstrates A Strong Start to It’s Commercial Operation

Air Montenegro is already proving to be very popular and has been able to demonstrate strong passenger numbers and income since it began operating commercial flights in July 2021.

Launched by the Montenegrin Government after the collapse of the previous airline (Montenegro Airlines) it currently has 5 routes in operation with plans to invest further in 2022. Currently, their fleet of Embraer Aircraft flies from both Tivat & Podgorica with routes to Belgrade, Banja Luka, Frankfurt, Istanbul & Ljubljana. Goran Djurovic who is a member of the Board of Directors was keen to point out that ‘There is a huge interest for travel to Montenegro and planes are operating at almost full capacity.’

Given that the previous airline served 18 routes to Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Austria, Slovenia, Serbia, Switzerland and the UK, both the Government and the Directors are keen to re-introduce these routes on Air Montenegro, but at a slow and steady pace to ensure there is enough demand to secure profitability across all areas of the new business.

Even though a National Carrier is a symbol of great pride, and it’s still in its infancy compared with many other National Carriers, there was a lot of criticism aimed at the new airline when it first launched with reports that they’d been left without operational engines, catering had been bought from Air Serbia and flights were leaving empty at the cost of the taxpayer, however, many of these were unproven and quickly forgotten about.
As demand for air travel continues and tourist numbers return close to pre-pandemic levels, Air Montenegro will continue to invest in its fleet and it’s routes, so they might just be coming to an airport near you – very soon!
